New Tour Dates for Europe and Australia

There are a stack of new June and July European shows announced on our Gig Calendar and on The Beggars Facebook page. New shows shows and details are also announced for South Australia Victorian and New South Wales.

Euro Tour Launch and Fundraiser Friday June 14th

The Beggars are touring Germany, Switzerland and Denmark for three weeks through June and July. To celebrate getting another international tour of the ground and raise some cash for the flights we are playing a concert on Friday June 14 at the Trinity Sessions 318 Goodwood Road and all the profits will go toward the flights. We will be ably supported on the night by the superb singer songwriters The Texettes and later in the night the wonderful Trev Warner who will join us on stage. There is a facebook event page for the June 14 concert if you like to use that.

Tour

I will post the tour dates in our gig calendar when they are all confirmed. The highlight of the 15 or so shows on the tour will almost certainly be the Skagen Festival in Denmark the longest running festival in that part of the world, it features a strong line up of Australian acts.

Album

We have been working on a new album called SING! and we will have the new CD for sale on the night!

First up: If you want to catch us at one of our rare Adelaide gigs, we are at our favorite local original music venue The Wheatsheaf on stage at around 9pm Saturday 19^th entry is free. We will have all our CDs for sale at the show.

2013 our sixth year is shaping up to be a solid one. With some touring and recording already scheduled.

We are pleased to announce the first of our confirmed northern summer dates. We will be traveling to Europe to play at Denmark’s longest running music festival – Skagen – July 4 to 7 – and we will have a special guest musician with us – the wonderful Andrew Celermont on fiddle, mandolin and possibly other instruments. You never know with Andrew he joined us on our recent tour of Queensland and it was a hoot.

Queensland Tour

We are at the end of week three and this tour has been our strongest yet. Most of the theatres are full and the feedback from the folks after the shows is really good. So are the CD sales with the Australian Songbook CD almost sold out. (We still have plenty of band T-shirts if any one wants)
The Pilbeam Theatre in Rockhampton was a highlight for me. Stu and I saw Slim Dusty play there some time around 1997. He put on a great show in front of a totally rapt and quite diverse crowd. The experience completely changed my opinion about the power of Australia roots/country/folk music. 15 years later we are singing from the same stage. wow.
Just one more show left on the tour. Tuesday 11am at the Logan Entertainment Centre and we will fly out that afternoon.

Qld Tour

We started our Qld tour flying from Adelaide to Townsville on Monday and driving out to Charters Towers for the first show which was in The World Theatre then on to shows in the Budekin Theatre and the Johnstone Shire Hall which is in Innisfail. We are now at the end of week two which has included shows in Cairns, Townsville, Proserpine and Mackay and as the tour has gone on the shows, audiences and venues have gotten bigger. The folks seem to really like the show and our current fiddle player Andrew Clermont. Andrew seems to know folks all over this part of the country and he has hooked up some little house concerts for our down days. Which should be fun.

I am excited to announce that The Beggars are making our biggest Australian tour ever, three weeks of concerts in Queensland through November and December. With 14 concerts taking in pretty much every big town from Cairns to Brisbane. The Tour is called Australian Songbook and all the dates are on our Gig Calendar page. As well as Stuart, Renee and Quinton [me] the show will include Andrew Clermont on the fiddle. This tour presents a special challenge for me as a double bass player. Because for the distance and the regional nature of the tour I will have to put my bass on the plane, which is a first for me and a bit scary. Usually if the tour is centered on a big city I can hire a bass on the ground. My new flight case is enormous and hopefully bullet proof.

We have a couple of gigs in Adelaide before the tour, one at The Wheatsheaf at 4 pm on Sunday October 14th and at the Marion Cultural Center at 7:30 pm On November 6th.

Our new single Little Lion Man is The Beggars cover of the Mumford and Sons hit. Its one for the first production out of my Tuneworks studio and its up at iTunes now.

The Whale

The Whale is on the iTunes charts again! It’s an absolutely fantastic Australian song full of drama and super storytelling. You would think it was written 150 years ago in the heyday of the whaling industry but no, it was written in the 1970s by Melbourne duo Fielding and Dyer.
